Scrapbooking, Card making, Crafts and More at Gingham Buttons 2
                                 by Sarah Whedbee

Debbie Machin, the owner of Gingham Buttons 2, was interviewed and when asked why she went from a person who would go to scrapbook stores,  to someone who owns a scrapbook store,  she said, “I was looking for something interesting to do with my daughters.  These types of crafts can be a way to get away from televisions, video games and computers.  Arts and crafting are not a priority in schools and the creativity involved is therapeutic for what ever challenges you may be facing - it gives the creative part of your mind the ability to exercise - it can help with  problem solving in the real world.

Gingham Buttons 2 provides supplies, products, tools and instruction for paper crafting, greeting cards, scrapbook pages, mixed media, home décor, images, stamping and coloring and they provide classes and workshops for each of those crafts.  When asked about coloring, Debbie said, “Coloring covers a wide range of products like blendable markers that are beautiful.  So that after you color your image that maybe you have stamped on a greeting card or scrapbook page, it actually looks like print work.  We also do water color, water color pencils, gel pens, pen work, both black and colors”.

Asked what would you say to many people who don’t even know that shops like yours   exist, Debbie sighed, “Oh you are missing out!  When my family is on a road trip, we will go 2 hours out of our way to find the stamp stores and scrapbook stores.  Each one has their own personality and I will learn from visiting the stores.”

You don’t have to be an expert.  Beginners can learn in a positive environment at classes and workshops for all skill levels where people come together and learn from each other. Debbie said, “I think of this place as a retreat, a zone where they leave the outside world behind and enter a safe and peaceful environment to be with other creative people.”

You don’t have to be a woman.  Men and children come in to make craft cards for loved ones or scrapbooks to pass along to their children and grandchildren.
