Most Children who enter foster care have already experienced terrible trauma. Moving from home, regardless of how bad it is, into foster care, regardless of how nice it is, causes even more stress. The fear of the unkown can be detrimental. Many of these children suffer from self esteem issues and being forced to carry all their belongings in a trash bag is degrading and can reinforce the negative self image they already have.
"Sweet Bags - Not Trash Bags" is a cause championed by the "Children r our future" organization run by Child Advocates and community leaders Constance Jones and Phaedra Lee of Daytona Beach.
Working together with the National Organization "Together We Rise" these ladies are working hard to provide resources to foster children in the area. To quote Together We Rise, " As children navigate through the foster care system or to another residence other than their HOME because of ABUSE, ABANDONMENT, NEGLECT, they often have very little personal belongings or at times nothing at all..."
It is in honor of these children, who often feel forgotten and neglected, that Constance Jones and Phaedra Leeare launching the SWEET BAG not TRASH BAG campaign. Help them provide brand new duffel bags with a blanket, teddy bear, hygiene kit, coloring book and crayons to the children in Volusia County.
