David Allen Potter is a singer and violin/fiddle player in central Florida. He started playing music in church as a very small child in the midwest where he is from. David has a classic country band called Smooth Country . They also perform western swing, retro pop easy listening and cowboy, some bluegrass and gospel music. Smooth Country has weekly shows at the Olympia Banquets and Events Facility in Mount Dora, Fl. It is like a dinner theater..with large dance floor and large stage. In his performances David sings a lot of the songs by Gentleman Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold, Ray Price, and Dean Martin as they are some of his favorite singers. In addition to David Allen Potter, Smooth Country consists of David Peddicord on steel guitar, classical guitar (electric), banjo and vocals, George Hawkins on lead guitar and keyboard, Stan Chase on drums, Vern Brewer on bass /vocals. They play at other places as invited, including the annual Volusia County Cracker Day rodeo in April each year.
David also in a Lake County based bluegrass band called Black Water Creek, who play regularly at a Eustis restaurant as well as private parties, festivals and special events. Pat and Susie McLaughlin are the heads of the band. Pat plays banjo and Susie plays upright bass. Dale Rathbun on guitar and vocals. David Logan plays mandolin /vocals and David Allen Potter on fiddle.
In addition to these bands David frequently plays with a fiddle/folk band called Jackson Creek at various festivals and restaurants. Jackson Creek is based out of Enterprise, Florida.The Jackson Creek band consist of Joe (guitar) and Katie Waller (also fiddle) and J.D. Smith (upright bass)
David is also a frequent musical partner with Daytona area Spanish guitarist, singer/songwriter Fernando Rio and has played at restaurants and at assisted living facilities in Holly Hill and Ormond Beach Florida as well as at a theater show in Eustis, Fl.
David regularly performs with various groups at the bi-annual Barberville Pioneer Settlement music festivals. He has worked with Nashville acts performing here in Florida such as with Ronnie Stoneman of television's Hee Haw and numerous times with Nashville recording artist Margo Smith , now living in the Villages,Fl. He worked with Canadian cowgirl country entertainer Eli Barsi in Branson, Missouri on a show there once as well.
David likes western swing and playing fiddle to the Texas shuffle music along with a steel guitar as well as crooning ballads. He also appreciates big band music, Spanish flavored music, western and classic or traditional country , gospel and easy listening music such as by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Perry Como. He has incorporated all these influences into his musical style and enjoys a variety of ways to display those in his performances. He currently has four cds that are for sale at his performances. One of the cds is an instrumental of old hymns , entitled "The Master's Violin" with David on violin and Johnny Reed Foley on guitar. Another of the cds called "Smooth and Classy" features David singing the songs of Jim Reeves, Dean Martin and Ray Price, his three favorite singers. The cds titled "Melodic Journies" and "From the Heartland" feature David and singer/guitarist Gwen Redman.
